The theme that artist, Patrick Joven, wanted to represent in this drawing is that when we have a deep and strong passion or love for something, it becomes a part of us. Using his favorite subject matter (human anatomy), his environment (the city of San Antonio), and his creativity of replacing anatomical structures with specific objects and subject matters, Patrick used one of the San Antonio Spur’s most beloved players, Tim Duncan, to show just that. This art piece uses a basketball in place of the human heart as the focal point to show an athlete’s love for their game and how their commitment runs deep in their veins.
